Our Unique Story
Royal Auto Upholstery is the dream and vision of Shawn Oldham, an Illinois native that followed his family to Iowa. Living in the northwest suburbs of Chicago allowed many opportunities to explore his creative abilities and hone his skills. At a young age he stepped into a small furniture shop in town and began his upholstery journey. After several years under a distinguished mentor he left furniture behind and drove straight into the automotive field. Now married to his wife and business partner, Lynn, with a growing family Shawn stretched his skills in the manufacturing of limousines and armrored vehicles. He found yet another mentor whom he followed to one of the largest trim shops in the Chicagoland area where he mastered his sewing and recovering knowledge over a 30 year career. It was a bittersweet day as he packed up his tools, sold his childhood home and moved his family to a small town in Iowa. Royal Auto Upholstery began in a garage in Leighton, Iowa. Knowing this would never be enough space to allow for all his creativity and ability to flourish the desire to move into a larger shop was the priority. Small town life has brought many friendships and through those connections many more opportunities. One custom interior lead to one of those connections which lead to our current location and the beginning of the next part of the dream. We welcome you along for the ride.
